Water Saver Hoses

Water your garden any day any time on any day, by using the waste water from your washing machine. Simply fit a water water hose to your washing machine and place the other end on your lawn or garden. The hoses are available in 10M (part number W111A - $29.95) or 20M (part number W111 - $55.00)

F.A.Q’s about water saver hoses.

My machine is emptying out.

There is no valve that keeps water in your washing machine. If you run the hose straight from the back of your machine to the ground level, water will run out. You need to make sure that the hose runs up to the equivalent height of the top of the mnachine.

I have done that but water is still flowing out of the hose.

Occasionally syphoning can occur. Raising the end of the hose to a height equal to or higher than the top of the washing machine will cure this problem. If you do not wish to do this, you can fit a syphon break to the hose. These are available from Doug Smith Spares (part number W023)

Can using this hose hurt my washing machine.

Some manufacturers recommend not extending your hose, as it places extra workload on the pump of the machine, while other manufacturers make no comment about it. There doesn’t seem to be valid reasoning behind the different opinions of various manufacturers when you consider that the specifications of the pumps in most makes of washing machines are so similar.  It has never been our experience that extending drain hoses causes damage to drain pumps. We have known thousands of customers who have done so over the years with no ill-effect whatsoever. We recommend however, that if you are un-sure you contact the manufacturer of your washing machine.

If you are concerned about using an extra long hose, there is something that you can do which will minimise the length that you require. Run the hose to a plastic garbage bin outside your laundry, and cut the hose to the exact length you need. Drill a hole in the bottom of the garbage bin and insert a garden hose. Seal it with silicon to stop leaks, and then run the end of the hose to wherever your garden needs it. By using this method, gravity that will carry the water slowly to your garden, rather than the pump of your washing machine. It also allows you to fit more than one hose, and you can even use a ‘soaker’ hose for your lawn if you wish.
