Chef Stoves and ovens were originally manufactured by Craig and Sealy sales in Melbourne; Dishlex dishwashers by Vulcan Dishlex in Melbourne; and Hoover appliances by Hoover in Meadowbank Sydney. Over the course of time the 3 brands were bought by Southcorp (the wine and packaging company) and later (in 2001) by Electrolux.

Electrolux no longer market the Hoover brand in Australia, but have retained and continue to market the chef and Dishlex brands.

Although the brands remain, the product has evolved greatly. As the tooling for the older product was no longer in use it became impossible to continue manufacture of parts for these old machines, so in 2010 Electrolux chose to divest themselves of most parts for the older generations of these brands.

The thing is, these were great machines. As they say, "no-one makes 'em like that any more." Although these machines are getting older, we understand that there are many of these machines out there and their owners would like to keep them going.

So, rather than let these appliances die, Doug Smith Spares bought all of that stock from Electrolux. Roughly half a million dollars worth of it.
